Annotation: We are used to regard the classical music as something opposite to the mass (popular) culture. The contemporary realities, however, disprove such prejudice. The processes of “implantation” of classical music into our mass-media everyday surroundings are studied and scrutinized in this book. How do the ideas mediated by the mass-culture through the classical music correlate to the principles of the “high” art and the very contents of the musical compositions? What are those topical issues and values that modernity manages to find in the art of the past times? What is being lost and gained through conversion of musical narratives into visual images?
