Aleksei Parin is a poet, translator and one of Russia’s best-known opera critics. Parin is also known as an organizer and jury member of several music festivals both in Russia and abroad. An expert on the history of theater and opera, he writes critical reviews for the world famous periodicals, such as Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Stuttgarter Zeitung, Sunday Times, Washington Post, Opera, Opernwelt and Opera International, to name just a few. For more than 20 years now he has been the host of a radio show called “Opera Klub” at the famous “Echo of Moscow” radio station and of another one, dedicated to music and theater criticism at the classical music radio station “Orpheus.” From the 1970s on Parin has been active as a translator, introducing Russian readers to the works of Sophocles, Ovid, Friedrich Nietzsche, Paul Celan and to the medieval French poets.
