Annotation: The new book by Dmitry Krymov is a collection of diary entries that the director has been writing over many years, in which he recorded his initial thoughts about future performances. In this candid "conversation with himself," the author attempts to capture the initial impulse to create a performance, that very "movement of air" — emerging from imagination, memories, forgotten images, and childhood fantasies — which over time unites into the text of the play, the director's copy, the performance itself. "The New Course" includes entries about many productions Krymov has made over the years, from "The Death of a Giraffe" and "Opus № 7" to "Serezha" and "Don Juan...," with individual parts of the book dedicated to the concepts of future performances and "thoughts in general," in which the author articulates his method and style.

But overall, a self-portrait against the backdrop of the play’s landscape is the best definition of what I do.
